@caveman357 Most likely he won't go into that kind of depth because users can set their own shortcut keys. He might have his keys setup different or vise versa. Learn shortcuts by going to the shortcut key menu.
Alt-f9 to open shortcut keys menu. Toggle points is as easy as using shortcut key or pressing the point selection button at the bottom of the screen.
Make sure you have all edges selected 2:30 (if you miss any edges you will have a weird result using edge bevel). After you have edges selected press ctrl b (edge bevel 2:47). You have to switch to polygon selection mode to 'connect' for this object. Switch to polygon selection first and then select polygons, select loop, connect 3:25 .
press tab you get error?
Could be because you have points, edges selected. Deselect all and try again.
Thanks for the tutorial, but i think that you should be more specific in your directions. Like when you say toggle to points, you should tell how to do that, since u are using shortcuts. Beginers like me will have to google search every few seconds to keep up with you.

@depender1 he says "N" for numeric, press the N key to open the window, it's a shortcut.
