  • We live in Palm Beach County and can see most of the launches if it is not cloudy. On two occasions we heard the sonic boom when the shuttle was flying a northerly course over us. I watched the last launch at night and it was really spectacular. I was stationed at the Cape in the Navy and to this day they are as exciting as the first one was.

  • The good quality on the video is something I still do not understand even after creating this video. What was it in the process that made it look so good? Must have been AutoGK that did it. My other videos are no where as good a quality as this one.

  • I captured the original from NASA TV using my Tivo. I then burned a DVD froom the footage using my Sony DVD Recorder. A free program called AutoGK, for Auto Gordian Knot, converted the DVD files to an AVI. The 640 x 480 avi that resulted from that was what I uploaded to YouTube.

  • I live next to the Space Center and I can see it land and take off.

  • I want to see a shuttle launch in person before they retire this beast. From the video, it looks like an amazing sight. Thanks for uploading this amazing video.

  • @tylermannison Did you get to?

  • @rbrown3rd I envy you guys, seriously, it must be so incredible

  • obama got rid of the ares rocket the one to replace the shuttle and gave nasa 2 . somthin billion dollars for new rocket wtf???if they get rid of shuttle on time and have to wait till 2018 for new rocket no trips to space in those years noooo!!!

  • Man..it must be really awesome to watch that so close to you. Unfortunately, in Brazil we don´t have this chance, i mean, to see it live. The only way to see it is through the net, but it´s so incredible and it´s worth it.

  • because they want to return to the moon (and maybe Mars), and the shuttle is not suitable for such long distances. they're introducing the Ariane rockets instead.

  • why ?

  • apparently 16 sept 2010 will be the last launch.

  • I used to live in T'ville. I was there when Columbia first took off in 1981. I witnessed the Challanger disaster LIVE as it happened in 1986...
