@ZoddGuts it was only 5-10 % of Japan's total military that did those things, and they did them because orders is orders, if they didn't follow orders they would have been punished for insubordination or even executed, but most soldiers were normal people know different from the American soldiers. after neither side was totally innocent.

You need to read the book "Oba-The Last Samurai" that this is based on. Oba was treated with huge respect by his enemy, before and after his surrender. If this film follows the "true" story it should show that not all of the Imperial soldiers were of the stereotype "war criminal" caste (although admittedly there were plenty that were).
