Welcome to UIUC, My Dorm, and my life with my Roommates (Page 15)

So I'm finally here at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign!!!! I'm set up and ready to live on my own!!! It's pretty cool having roommates especially 3 different ones, but life is always about adjusting. Hopefully I get used to this lifestyle quickly and enjoy my time here. WHOOO I'm excited! haha.

How is the food plan there?

Also, is it a "party dorm"? (Trying to avoid one)

One last thing, how long is the walk to the Arc?

@MrJinairik Our food plan is based on swipes so you prepay a certain number of meals and swipe each time you enter the dining common. The food is pretty good it's nothing to brag about but I have no problem with eating there frequently. UIUC may be a party school but I wouldn't say IT is a party dorm. The place is quiet and there are study lounges if you're looking for a quiet place to study. The walk to the Arc is about 7-10 minute. You can probably take the bus there too.

Thank you! Exactly what I am looking for, My only concern is that I don't run out of "swipes" before the semester ends! Oh! One last thing, The site says it has a"SWEAT and FLEX gym with free weights and cardio". Is this true? At any rate, I'm probably going here!

@MrJinairik Don't worry about running out of swipes, I'm pretty sure you can always purchase more or buy a premium plan or something like that. Haha I'm not too sure about the sweat and flex gym but I wouldn't be surprised if they did! Awesome glad to know you'll probably be coming here. Is this a 4 person suite? So you guys each have your own bedroom? I'm a prospective student btw

@melroseave86 Yes this is a 4 person suite. The one I live has 2 bedrooms for 4 people and includes a common living room and kitchen. I think there are other options available if you're looking for your own bedroom. It's really convenient and great living here and I highly recommend it...hopefully you'll come to UIUC next year!

i heard you mention engineering for your major. i was actually considering computer engineering as my major. i currently live in illinois and i heard u of i is a great school for engineering so it would be a great situation for me considering the low costs of in-state tuition. what are your thoughts on the computer engineering program and would you reccomend it. i am currently a junior in high school and have been exploring my options quite a bit.

Presby is a lot better for the price. Although the food is not quite as good, the living space is worth it.

Do you get to fill out a survey to choose dormmates or is it completely random?

@OurAdventureBook Oh right, I heard this type of suite is most common with freshmen. I personally prefer my own room since I sleep and get up at random hours (which would bother a roommate) but do you think it is unlikely for a freshman to get their own room since upperclassmen usually get first pick? Also I'm still deciding between IT and Presby. I'm flying in this week to visit UIUC! :)
