We have to give people an opportunity to help themselves and we have to give them 100% credit for their own success.

The result - another hard-working, tax-paying, proud member of the community.

Even if the community agreed with the 10-year plan (now 6 years old) handouts don’t work. They don’t build confidence, they’re not long-term and the 10-year plan is a band-aid on a broken soul.

Google search “Homeless, John Disque” & take the time to read my series on Homelessness.

There’s a lot more involved (of course) but this is the heart.

The homeless are not all the same. They are all very unique (just like us) but we tend to group them all into 1 category and attempt to create one solution for all.

Each needs a unique plan developed around their circumstances, past, talent, personality, disorders, addictions, etc..

  • 3-b

Sixty-six percent (66%) of the homeless are dealing with chemical dependency and/or mental disorders. Knowing your value, finding an outlet for your talent and caring about yourself is the very-root of change.

Once this occurs a very large percentage of the homeless will follow-through with addiction recovery, mental illness programs, job training, housing and career guidance.

At this point - You will see an upward (but fragile) spiral.

Then you have to clear, and keep-cleared, a path for the homeless to rekindle, learn and utilize their talent. (This step is where the money comes in but I have a plan for that too and it has nothing to do with taxes or government – other than a little time and support from our leaders).

  • 1 & 2

I strongly believe that every human being has a talent/gift that they can use to "better" the world.

The first step in case-management should be: recognizing this and guiding the homeless person to-recognize it, then proving their own value and showing them their place in society.

Once this process takes place you will begin to see changes in the person.

2- show/teach them how to deal-with and use negative energy for positive changes.

  • Mark can't tell the difference between huge projects like Chicago's, and permanent housing like Minvilla. Let's just deny homelessness - deny the costs we are now paying in services like emergency medicine.

Why do the people who know, say, Housing first?

Lets trust our gut: Denial Works!! Nuff said!
