Volvo XC60: Driver Alert Control

Volvo has developed a driver alert safety feature that you can experience in the new XC60. The feature uses a camera to monitor the cars movements between the road markings and assesses whether the vehicle is being driven in a controlled way. If driver concentration drops, the driver is alerted with an alarm.

There's a lot of "what ifs" out there, and so that why these safety features are meant to supplement and aid a driver, but never replace the ultimate responsibility of the driver.

very state of the art, but isn't this just another in car distraction? if you're already sleepy and having trouble focusing, then you have to look for some bleeping coffee mug on your instrument panel, isn't that just another thing to take your eyes off the road? Maybe it would be better to have a little spicket to shoot a burst of air in your face, or cold water! (jokes) :P

How about a sensor that detects democrats?

It could eject them from the car so they could hitch a ride in a Prius.

@XBTechno & VolvoXC60 - I have an idea for the 2011 which I think you'll like. Why not combine "Driver Alert" with "City Safety"? Esentially, since the vehicle's already monitoring unprojected lane changes, why not utilize the power steering to 'slightly' correct itself, & maintain in ONE lane? Basically, you've taken being "broad-sided" completely out of the picture. Naturally of course, the system would have to monitor & react differently in icy conditions.
