I always thought this movie was highly underrated by film critics. A very poignant scene in an evocative film. Such a sadly beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it.

Look for the symbolism in this scene:
Poinsettia pin on her jacket, cross on the back, #87 on her sleeve (John 8:7), birds signify peace, water signifies purification and redemption, Johnny B represent Christs power to heal. And hymn Percy sings "Balm of Gilead" refers to a substance that was used to heal and soothe. It came, perhaps, from a tree or shrub, and was a major commodity of trade in the ancient world. In the movie scientists are taking plant and tree samples to find a cure for cancer.

@mmrsimmons123 You're right. This movie is about the redemption. 'Eli(Johny B's original name)' means 'God' in Hebrew language. Gilead is the town which has balm tree that can heal wounded people, near Jordan river appears since the Genesis in the Holy bible. This scene is expression of baptism in Christianity. Actually this movie is donated $600M by a Catholic foundation called 'Sacred Heart League'.

@mmrsimmons123 Interesting thins are the director is Jewish and Percy goes to a protestant church for her meditation and praying in the movie. America is one of the most interesting place I think. Everything is mixed well naturally. Anyway, this movie is my all-time favorite. Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply :)

@mmrsimmons123 Great analyzation~! The Poinsettia signifies her earnest prayer and I could find a perfect phrase for this movie in the John 8:7 of the Holy Bible. "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Thank you so much~! :)
