USB Dongle Copy Protection - A Darius Rant

I was a bit miffed when I discovered that a music software application I purchased was not compatible with a 'universal' Authorization key I had previously purchased. The kicker is that Steinberg, the developer of the software app, is listed as compatible with the USB device I have!

I decided to do a video rant (my first) instead of a blog entry as I feel the format suits this kind of rant better than the precision-heavy blog entry. I think I eased myself out of any frustration I was feeling prior to the rant. Thanks for watching.

I have a simple solution to your future audio recording problems. Take your current copy of Cubase and uninstall it from your computer. Then douse it in lighter fluid, place in a burn safe container and light a match. Now, go out and buy Ableton. I hope this has helped.

Is there a way to copy a warez to a usb dongle? I was trying to slowly go legit and bought Cubase 5 to replace Nuendo 3. Now I can't use Steinberg Hypersonic 2 h20. It's not sold anymore so I can't even buy it if I wanted. Someone is gonna say "it's old anyway" but that's not my question. I can't open important old projects w/o this plugin.

dongles suck I use a two computer setup and have to constantly remember to swap out the dongles depending on what I'm doing I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES A DONGLE AGAIN

a) If using a legally purchased copy is HARDER than using a warezed copy, I'll go for the warez.

b) There's no such a thing as an 'universal' USB dongle.

c) Nice rant, a bit long and nonexpressive, but the first Ive seen on youtube about dongles :)

For the record, I have not yet purchased the Steinberg key, as the sole product I own that demands it (Halion player) does not appear to warrant any rush to purchase the Steinberg dongle, so I've put it on the backburner of my mind for now.
