Ling Lom

Ling Lom, also known as Air Monkey or Dancing Monkey, is a style of martial arts practiced in Thailand and Laos. Ling lom includes both striking and ground-fighting. Ground fighting techniques traditionally taught in Muay Thai, but rarely used in modern sport bouts, are sometimes referred to in Thailand as Ling Lom, though this is not technically correct.

The origin of Ling Lom is uncertain. Some sources indicate that it developed from Chinese martial arts along the border area between China and Southeast Asia (modern-day Laos and Myanmar). Other sources identify Ling Lom as Indian in origin, claiming that the movements and name of the style stem from the fighting techniques of the divine monkey Hanuman described in the Ramayana (and its Thai version, the Ramakien, and its Lao version the Pra Lak Pra Lam). Many of the individual techniques in Ling Lom have specific names, a practice common to several kung-fu(monkey styles).

Muay Boran is said to have split from Ling Lom in the 1700s. Some of the techniques displayed by Tony Jaa in the popular Thai martial arts film Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior are taken from Ling Lom.

@WingTsunPanda There is no Thai MA called Ling Lom. Ling Lom in Thailand is 1. Black magic tatoo 2. Slow moving primate (slow loris). Sunthus created this Ling Lom in 70's to support his living in Germany. He attempted to use internet to lie but it backfired him.

Sadly some other Thai masters, lie and lie trying to convince Ling Lom is nickname of another famous Muay Thai style (again no historical backup)

@WingTsunPanda 2 masters mentioned a lot, a friend at Thai admin. record seached on em,no record .He concluded both people never existed/ born or died before early 1900's . Sunthus's respond: Leung's fabricated everything, true IDs of his masters hidden by Thai gov't. He switched story that he learned Ling Lom/Pahuyuth from a wandering monk who came in his dream, took him to a cave where he met the Monkey King and friends who taught him Ling lom

@WingTsunPanda If the information is from Leung Ting and Sunthus Suspatupong, the info is no good . Sunthus IS NOT a credible martial artist or teacher. Already mentioned about him. No record of Sunthus being champion honored before the king (Thailand), in 1977. Claimed to study under many famous Thai MA masters, again noone recognized/remembered him.

There is no connection between the two.Ling lom in this clip is posted by a self proclaimed Thai MA master in Germany.Claimed to be 4,000yrs old but evidences prove that it was invented 30 yrs ago.

Thaiyuth's ling lom is claimed (recently?) to be a nickname of Muay Thasao. Again, no evidence supports this claim, only modern Muay Thasao guys' thought w/ no references. Once more, No connection between the two (I hope).
