Leading philosophers including William Lane Craig, Quentin Smith, Paul Ricoeur, David Hugh Mellor, and Michael Friedman discuss time. Topics include the nature of space and time, the reality or unreality of time, Einstein's special theory of relativity, the A-theory and B-theory of time, whether the present enjoys a privileged status, and whether temporal becoming is merely an illusion.

  • @joel230182 Perhaps if you read some of Georg Cantor's work on infinity, you might gain some insight into how complex it truly is :P Don't get too into it though, you might end up insane

  • "...extending from an infinite past.."? How did time get to this point if an infinite amount of time passed before it? there's no such thing as an infinite past.

  • Aha... This is why I was never really able to comprehend Craig's theories of time...he sticks to the Newtonian concept of time, and states relativistic time is only a measurement of Newtonian "absolute time"...I still disagree with his theory of time, but now I understand him more :D

  • @sentstuff05 Not quite. Newton found out about the exsistence of absolute space and time through physical experiments such as the rotating bucket experiment.

  • @sentstuff05 Dr. Craig is not saying that you or anyone else should believe Newton's doctrine (at least not here). All he says is that Einstein's 1905 general theory of relativity does not rule out Newton's doctrine of absolute time, for the reasons he goes on to give. This has no saying on whether or not newtonian theory of absolute time is true.

  • @sentstuff05 he is william lane craig, a failure of a jesus "philosopher"

  • Who is bearded man-- If you can't measure 'absolute time' how and why should we believe it exists...? Newton believed it b/c he believed in god...for which there is also no evidence.

  • very interesting :)

I wonder if its possible to manipulate time; to make a time loop (for example)

ah, I wish time was irrelevant to our species but I suppose I just want to live like the gods

  • very nice video thanks for uploading
