Replaced governor pressure solenoid with updated larger Borg Warner Solenoid, and replaced the transducer gov sensor. Updated solenoid resolved 1 to 2 shift problems that the 48re's are all known for. Truck has been shifting fine since I've replaced these solenoids

  • Mine took about 5.5qts of fluid if I remember correctly. I think the 4x4 take about 7qts of fluid due to them having a deeper pan. Glad to see it work out for you!

  • is this similar to the 45re? i only have 3rd unless i drop it to D1 or D2 but even then i still only have 2nd, no 1st or 4th gear. tranny shop told me 1200 for them to replace the solenoid

  • @coltncall The tranny shop you went too is smoking crack! It takes me about 1hr to replace these solenoids. Most tranny shops shouldn't charge more than $250 to replace both of these solenoids.

  • I have a 2-3 weird shuttle shift I wonder if thus would fix it? 03 dodge diesel 150k miles? Any ideas?

  • @Danscraigslist65 All 48re tranny's shift like this. I would consider this normal. I would try adjusting your bands.

  • I was wondering about the transmission temperature sensor and if this needs to be changed at the same time? Is it up there in the same area ?? My tran templight is flashing and its kicking out of OD. I heard it could be related to the gov press solenoid also. Thanks for any info.

  • @gwot09 Sounds like you got some internal issues with the transmission. My temp light never came on. Sounds like something overheated in the tranny. I would recommend taking it to a trans shop and having it looked at.

  • the front seals are notorous for leaking. run a ground wire from the transmissin=on to the frame. use a 4 guage wire. will give smooth shift.

  • So do you happen to know anything about the new Orion 68RE auto? Compared to this how would you rate it?

I happen to like the the newer 6.7L but I herd the DPF can be a real pain in wasting fuel for regeneration mode.

  • @Danscraigslist65 It's not "normal". A new governor pressure solenoid and transducer will fix your shuttle shifting issues ... that's what they are mainly replaced for. I'd do a little research on cumminsforum(dot)com as there are better alternatives (solenoids) if the work is not done under warranty.

  • it took 7 quarts?

  • @Danscraigslist65 thanks again my 03 3500 still working glad you posted this video

  • How do I adjust the bands?
