Digging through my old stuff, I found this old video from a "how-to build your own PC" guide I was working on at the time.

At the shop we would get a lot of people that didn't know what went where and how... seriously.

  • Uh that 6-pin connection on my old Dell goes to the motherboard, but it also does graphics cards??? I though older graphics cards had molex connectors?

  • @MrTpengineer NO! That's a different kind of 6-pin called an AUX connector. The PCIe 6-pin connector is only +12V and ground. Your AUX connector has +3.3V, +5V, etc. Totally different.

  • 12V wire that goes to motherboard is the only 12V wire coming out of power supply?

  • @MAnGaThaBOy: No. ALL of the yellow wires carry +12V. This one is called the +12V power connector because +12V is all that it supplies.

  • Thanks for the video!

BTW is a 650 Watt PSU suitable for Intel 865DPERL MotherBoard, 2 HDD's and 2 CD Roms?

  • No processor or graphics card? Sure! More than enough.

  • parts in the tower are so hard to get out i swear its like their super glued lol thx

  • @jonnyGURU Ok, the Dell is from 1998. you confuse me :( lol

  • @MrTpengineer This video was shot back in 2002. PCIe power connectors didn't exist back then!!!

  • @jonnyGURU 1:13 that hooks up to the Dell motherboard in order for it to work, tried it with a graphics card but the graphics card had a molex connection, looked up the connector online and never found one card from 2002 that used that type of connection.
