an old Stanley brothers song I ran across several years ago, and it just raised it's head last week. I git to thinking about it, thought I'd give'r a go and see what happens. This is the kind of song that I really, really like. I sure hope you all do too. We are trying to get together and do another version of it, with more music and singers, but til then, here we go!

key of "E" capoed 2nd fret

Sadly we [D] sing and with [G] tremulous [D] breath
As we stand by the mystical [A7] stream
In the [D] valley and by the dark [G] river of [D] death
And yet 'tis no [A7] more than a [D] dream.

-----------------------------------------------------Chorus: -----------------------------------------------------
[G] Only a dream, [D] only a dream
Of glory beyond the dark [A7] stream
How [D] peaceful the slumber, how [G] happy the [D] waking
Where death is [A7] only a [D] dream.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why [D] should we weep when the [G] weary ones [D] rest
In the bosom of Jesus [A7] supreme
In the [D] mansions of glory [G] prepared for the [D] blest
For death is no [A7] more than a [D] dream.
--------------------------------------------Chorus: -------------------------------------------------

Naught [D] in the river the [G] Saints shall [D] appall
Tho' it frightfully dismal may [A7] seem
In the [D] arms of our Savior no [G] ill can be [D] fall
They find it no [A7] more than a [D] dream.
--------------------------------------------------Chorus: -----------------------------------------------

Over [D] the turbid and on [G] rushing [D] tide
Doth the light of eternity [A7] gleam
And the [D] ransomed, the darkness and [G] storm shall out [D] ride
To wake with glad [A7] smiles from their [D] dream.
Chorus:

  • did you do the tabs yourself or did you find it somewhere?

  • I looked for the words and chords on-line, but never found them, so I started messing with it a few years ago, and after much "playing" around, finally got something to work.

  • thanks! I love them old SAD mournful tunes too. The sadder the better. I love a song that just reaches in your chest and yanks your heart out roots and all!
