Tajikistan may be one of the least understood countries in the least understood part of the world. With Western China to its east, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to its north, Uzbek desert to its West, and Afghanistan to its south. Slightly smaller than Wisconsin, this mostly mountainous country is one of the main places to view major international and transnational stories of today.
From drug smuggling to Ecotourism. Cotton to Islam. Soviet legacies to American soldiers. Traditions and modernity. I invite you to come with me on my adventure throughout this beautiful and diverse country.

Episode 5: The Road Between
In this Episode we look at the road between Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, and Khujand (the second largest city). The road is harrowing to be sure, and only the bravest would likely drive it, but due to unreliable railways, and the cost of flying its the most common way to get from one place to another.
If you would like to read more about the road feel free to read this blog post:

There is a tunnel built by Iran, but I believe it is on the road towards the south. This is the road to the north.

I think the first tunnel is actually Iranian-built, a friendship tunnel built after TJ's independence.

The water is clean in Tajikistan, thats why Samarkand city in Uzbakistan has the same water because it comes through the Tajikistan, actually Samarkand used to be part of Tajikistan. Whole uzbakistani land (not tashkent) used to belong to the Ancient Tajik people for many centuries. By dumb ass Russians Lenin divided the Tadjik lands into two country.
