one question: If they don't want to use steam, and they have a continuous source of electricity, why use diesel? They might as well have used the pantographs on the coaches for power as well as for signalling.

Wish it could be a REAL steam locomotive.
But maintenence and supplying fuel and water frequently would be a problem.
Pollution and reliability would be another problem.
Would like to have seen the side rods in action.
At least they use the smoke stack for the Diesel exhaust!

today's bochan resha is a replica one which is built in 2001 and powered by deasel.
