From his 1979 album Victims of the Fury.

Robin Trower - Lead guitar
James Dewar (RIP 1942 - 2002) - Bass and vocals
Bill Lordan - Drums

Lyrics:
You were all the rays of sunlight
Shinin' gold to me
Every color of the rainbow
I was blessed by her decree

You were every moment's magic
Joy beyond compare
You were all the rays of sunlight
I was lost without a care

Victims of the fury
Shadows in the dark
Victims of the fury
Arrows found their mark

So we lived our days in rapture
Like the world could never end
We weren't thinkin' 'bout the future
We had time enough to spend

We were blessed as though in heaven
We were messengers of joy
There were angels all around us
There was none who dared destroy

Victims of the fury
Shadows in the dark
Victims of the fury
Arrows found their mark

Then the world collapsed around us
And the tables overturned
We were lambs before the slaughter
We were driven out and burned

Yes the world collapsed around us
And the archers found their mark
We were victims of the fury
We were shadows in the dark

Yeah victims of the fury
Shadows in the dark
Oh victims of the fury
Arrows found their mark

Victims of the fury
Shadows in the dark
Victims of the fury
Arrows found their mark

  • I have been trying for 5 years to get the local "Classic Rock" station to play this song... Such a cool riff, lyrics and groove :)

  • @Phreddieboy it's a shame "Classic Rock" stations only play the same popular music that we get tired of hearing. It would be nice every once in a while if they played some deep cuts.

  • Great guitarist, great band, great song, great album.

  • I think the great vocalist deserves a separate mention, too.

  • GREAT song! Brings back memories of High School Days! One of the World's Greatest Guitarist PERIOD.

  • @Motorsheep: Cool. Coincidently, Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite vocalists in rock. But James Dewar can make my spine tingle.

  • @tripfunkmonster Nothing to apologize for. Being a (beginner) guitarist myself, I tend to get caught up in Robin's playing, too. Took me quite some time to realize how good James Dewar sang. I remember that at some point I suddenly thought "Hey, on this song his vocalist sounds almost as good as Paul Rodgers with Free." Then I started listening to him more closely, and "About to begin" absolutely blew my mind.

My favorite vocalist ever has got to be Warren Haynes with Gov't Mule though.

  • @Motorsheep: Great guitarist, great vocalist, great band, great song, great album. You're right and I apologize. Believe it or not, James Dewar is actually my favorite vocalist EVER. Being a guitarist, I get too caught up in Robin's playing. It sends me on a sonic journey beyond description. Peace.

  • One of my favorite albums. Dewar is the greatest.

  • This is the theme song for my life!
