I have seen a baboon throw her infant at a predator to save herself. When a new leader takes over the troop, he kills all the babies, so the females go in heat and mate with him. These things operate on reaction and instinct. Not right or wrong, just the way it is. They die horribly and painfully in the wild, diseases, cannibalism,infections. That is just the way nature is. The "wild" is not the idealist life some would have you believe.
