Impact
When I talk about impact Im talking about a high force or shock applied over a short time period of time. The explosive bit on the end of the strike regardless of what type of power shot you throw.
So I thought Id put a little clip together to show people how we train for impact, and show you whats worked for me and my students when were looking to refine the explosiveness on the end of the shot, I get the feeling that a lot of people dont really understand how to create it or train for it. So I try to explain things in as simple way as I can, so new guys and experienced can get an understanding of what Im explaining and trying to show you an example of. You could read a thousand books and still not have a clue what Im on about so Ill leave it to the clip for a better explanation
As with any new training that you do, it needs to be built up slowly so you can safely test your boundaries, Ive found the few basic exercises in the clip do a very good job of taking your impact to a much higher level
The bags
Theres various bags used on the clip the two big ones I use is a large maize bag filled purely with kiln dried sand and Martyns bag which has about a foot of material in the bottom and the rest filled with kd sand again, I find with the kiln dried sand it doesnt compact as much as normal sand and allows for a bit more drive on the strike, the smaller one weighs about 20 kilo and is got lead and kd sand in, the bob dummy has been heavily modified as well so that its a lot heavier and harder, the head and neck is full of silicone rubber (the type used around windows) and the neck is reinforced so theres a lot less give its very similar to a makiwara (one with a bit of give)
Marts bag is a beast and not one Ill be hitting regularly with no gloves, but the clip also shows you the impact training I do helps with the conditioning as well, because Im throwing bare knuckle on his bag with no problems ..Im not saying it didnt sting(you will notice how mart starts laughing just after I land the shot because he knows how much it stings, before I even have time to react )
And there are a couple of clips from a very good seminar i did with Martin Cooper and the ESDS
does weight lift help to punch harder in mma?

@HevyToy id say its your core that's important for power, kettle bell swings, sledge hammer and Tyre, the sort of thing that uses the whole body explosively, but to be honest the biggest difference you'll make is in your technique rather than strength.
