El Caminito del Rey (English: The King's pathway) is a walkway, now fallen into disrepair, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Álora in Málaga, Spain. The name is often shortened to El Camino del Rey.

HISTORY:
In 1901 it was obvious that the workers of the Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls needed a walkway to cross between the falls, to provide transport of materials, vigilance and maintenance of the channel. Construction of the walkway lasted four years. It was finished in 1905.

In 1921 the king Alfonso XIII had to cross the walkway for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce, and it became known by its present name.
The walkway has now gone many years without maintenance, and is in a highly deteriorated and dangerous state. It is one meter (3 ft) in width, and is over 700 feet (200 m) tall. Nearly all of the path has no handrail. Some parts of the walkway have completely collapsed and have been replaced by a beam and a metallic wire on the wall. Many people have lost their lives on the walkway in recent years. After four people died in two accidents in 1999 and 2000, the local government closed the entrances. However, adventurous tourists still find their way into the walkway.

The regional government of Andalusia budgeted for 2006 a restoration plan estimated at € 7 million.

El Caminito del Rey (Nazwa jest zazwyczaj skracana do El Camino del Rey - Ścieżka Króla) to obecnie nieczynny szlak pieszy ciągnący się wzdłuż stromych ścian wapiennego wąwozu w parku narodowym Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, nieopodal miejscowości El Chorro, w hiszpańskiej prowincji Málaga. Dnem wąwozu płynie rzeka Guadalhorce, zaś obie ściany wąwozu stanowią pionowe urwiska skalne osiągające wysokość ponad 100 metrów. Ścieżka Króla prowadzi w większości prawą ścianą wąwozu (prawy brzeg rzeki), po betonowych platformach przytwierdzonych stalowymi wysięgnikami do skały, często na wysokości kilkudziesięciu metrów ponad dnem wąwozu. Przeciwległa (lewa) ściana wąwozu jest w kilku miejscach przecięta mostami i wykutymi w skale tunelami, którymi wiedzie linia kolejowa. Zarówno Ścieżka Króla, jak i torowisko kolejowe są obecnie miejscami niedostępnymi dla turystów; przechodzenie tunelami kolejowymi grozi wysokim mandatem, zaś stan techniczny El Caminito w ogóle nie pozwala na przejście osobom nie dysponującym podstawowym sprzętem alpinistycznym

El Caminito del Rey es un paso construido en las paredes del Desfiladero de los Gaitanes en El Chorro, cerca de Álora (Málaga). Se trata de un paso peatonal de 3 km. con largos tramos con una anchura de apenas 1 m. colgando hasta 100 m. de altura sobre el río, en unas paredes prácticamente verticales. Actualmente se halla muy deteriorado, casi todo el recorrido está sin barandilla y hay segmentos que se han colapsado, quedando sólo la viga de soporte. Todos estos factores han contribuido a crear una leyenda negra tras haber perdido la vida excursionistas tratando de cruzarlo. Existe el rumor de que los días de luna llena puede verse a JR y Gorka corriendo desnudos por el camino, con las carnes rosadas prietas por el frio y el pelo ondeando al viento, huyendo raudos de la inseguridad del camino para proseguir con sus manifestaciones físicas de amor en terreno más seguro
