RAPAPORT...

Christie's New York Jewels sale, which was held at Rockefeller Center on December 7, 2010, totaled $22,140,350 (GBP 14,030,640 and EUR 16,572,118) and was 83 percent sold by lot, 78 percent sold by value. The top lot was a 6.89 carat, fancy vivid purple-pink diamond, which sold for $6,914,500 or $1 million per carat.

Rahul Kadakia, head of jewelry at Christie's Americas, said, "Following the record-breaking $23.1 million sale of the Perfect Pink at Christie's Hong Kong on November 29, a 6.89 carat fancy vivid purple-pink diamond led the day here in New York at $6.9 million, or $1 million per carat.

"We are also pleased to report an immediate after-sale of a 37.57-carat Kashmir sapphire ring for $542,500. The results of the day's sale bring our New York jewelry sales total to $131 million for the year -- the highest total ever for the U.S. jewelry auction market," Kadakia said.

Christie's Paris will hold a jewels sale on December 13 and 14, featuring a great selection of jewels by JAR.
