  • SEN OBAMA cont.

But I think that the basic concept — and Ive heard it from some of the other folks — is that, increasingly, we have to view our security in terms of a common security and a common prosperity with other peoples and other countries.

  • SEN. OBAMA: Well, I think one of the things about the Obama Doctrine is its not going to be as doctrinaire as the Bush Doctrine because the world is complicated. And I think part of the problem weve had is that ideology has overridden facts and reality.

  • SEN. BIDEN on Bush Doctrine

SEN. BIDEN: Clarity. Prevention, not preemption. An absolute repudiation of this presidents doctrine, which has only three legs in the stool: one, push the mute button, dont talk to anybody; two, preemption; and three, regime change. I would reject all three. We need a doctrine of prevention.

  • It can't possibly be iterated enough that not only was this a totally fair question that Palin was unable to answer, but Gibson was cherry-picked for this interview because the Republicans thought he'd give the best balance of national exposure with easy questions. Palin can't answer questions from the Republicans' own choice of journalists. How's she going to preside over the Senate as the VP does (something she also doesn't seem to know?) If McCain dies, how will she face down world leaders?

  • So of the "seven Bush doctrines" that pundits like to throw out to defend this trainwreck of a nominee, clearly everyone else knows which one "the Bush doctrine" refers to. I knew it, and I'm some random schlub on the internet. What's Palin's excuse?
