The Ottoman rule of Greek and other lands for many centuries resulted in many cultural sharings and borrowings between Greeks Turks and many other ethnic groups. Here, I selected examples of musics for a variety of regional folk dances where the name of the dance or the title of the specific tune has a Turkish origin. The titles Karagioules from Crete, Selimbeis (Selim Bey) from southern Greece, Osman Pasa and Suleyman Aga from Macedonia refer to actual historical persons from the time of the Ottoman Empire.
