See You On the Finish Line (So Close 2) (Chapter 5)

so i decided to post one of this story before i went to sleep. busy day tomorrow.
I just found out i'm going to the Demi concert on Friday! i'm super excited. yay for my friend Zija!! haha.

I called Rebecca's doctor and Dad, and soon after I hung up we were at the hospital. I jumped out and opened the door for Blake, who pulled Rebecca out. Almost immediately after we walked in, nurses and doctors took her from Blake and rushed her back with Mom, leaving me and Blake almost shell-shocked standing in the waiting room. It took a nurse to snap us out of it when she took the bloody tissues from Blake, offered us drinks, and led us to sit down.

{Joe's P.O.V.}
We didn't get another break long enough for me to call Riley, so it had to wait till the next afternoon when I had my lunch break. I took my sandwich in one hand and my phone in the other and went searching for cell service.
"Hey." When she answered she sounded a mix of sad and scared, but she was trying to hide it.
I didn't fall for it though. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Stop lying."
"I'm not lying. I'm just tired."
I knew I wasn't gonna get anything from her yet, so I had to work around it for now. "If you say so. Anyway, I was just wondering, is something wrong with your sister?"
"What? No, nothing wrong with Rebecca," she said quickly. She seemed to catch herself and clear her throat. "I mean, why would you think something was wrong?"
"It's just, Nick's worried. He said she's not answering her phone. He says he has a bad feeling like something's wrong."
"Oh uh...well... her phone broke."
"You sure about that?" I said laughing a little.
She sighed and was silent for a minute. That's when I heard an announcement on her side of the phone. "Dr. Cambridge to ER 4 please."
"Rye, are you at the hospital?"
"Um...no?"
"Oh so then Dr. Cambridge is just MIA and they had to announce his need in ER 4 across the entire town?"
"Oh you heard that."
"Rye, are you okay? Did you have another bad seizure?"
"No, no, I'm fine."
"Then what's going on?"
She sighed again and then said, "I know you're all really busy, but I think you guys need to come back."
"What? Why?"
"You just do."
"Riley, that's not a good enough reason."
"I know, but I can't say, I promised I wouldn't, but Nick's feeling was right; something's wrong here, really wrong, and I think we need you."
She seemed so serious, so scared, I knew this wasn't a joke or an over exaggeration. I sighed, searching my brain for a way to make this work. "I'll see what I can do, okay? I'll try my best."
"Thank you Joe."
"I'll call you as soon as I can. I miss you."
"I miss you too."
"And I love you so much."
"Love you too." I could hear her start to cry a little.
It pained me that I couldn't comfort her. "I'm so sorry, but I should go."
"It's okay; I should too."
"All right, bye sweetie."
"Bye Joey."
My hand shook as I hung up. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I knew it was big, and it was painful to be stuck in a different place, a different country, with nothing I could do. I had a bottomless pit feeling in my stomach, and I just knew something very bad was happening. Now I had to find a way to not only take care of this, but also break the news to Nick that his gut feeling was right.

{Riley's P.O.V.}
It was an hour or so until we heard anything. That's when a doctor approached us and asked us if we were Rebecca's siblings. When we said yes, he sat down in the chair across from us. "Is she okay?" I asked quietly.

is she okay? yeah sorry i didn't tell you yet, but this is the way the story's working out lol. but it'll be rather clear in the next one and then explicitly stated in the one after that i believe, so no worries you'll find out what's wrong soon!
