To prove the effectiveness of single hook rigs for predators on this, my 3rd session to the Canal after Zander this autumn, I fished with all single rigs. I would then compare results with previous sessions to see if there was a fall in the runs to hook up ratio as many people had predicted would happen. Conversely, I am actually quite convinced that if you do everything properly and sensibly the hook up ratio could actually be increased! This will be continued over the course of the winter. I have landed Pike to over 11lb on singles before but this is entirely different!

  • Wheres this mate? Is it just past alvechurch?

  • Have you ever tried small shads, or drop-shot fishing for zander on the canal? I bet they would respond well to lures - could be great fun as well.
