A fast and easy block heater installation on an LDS 465-1A engine. Using NPT type block heater, not the everyday freeze plug type. Use the same on any LD, LDS, LDT engine. 2 1/2 ton or 5 ton. This heater is a 600 watt unit. Though not mounted in the usual place. It does throroughly heat the block for fast cold weather starts.

  • Great video man, I have a quick question: I need to install a block heater on a 1976 chrysler 318 cu, do you have any advice as to what unit, etc, to use?

    Thanks

  • @wtflazerpewpew Can't help you on that. I'd say dig around and you'll find what you need on the net somewhere.

  • Thanks! My project vehicle isn't one of these and my options are a tank heater in the heater-hose-line or a core-plug heater. Am I guessing right, this heater you just installed sets up the best convection flow in the block? Best regards.

  • @TheSonofmydad What this gives you is a FAST and EASY to install block heater and one that does the job it is intended. Is it the best? Who knows. I'm sure you could spend a lot more money and time for something else for better results. However, for time and cost this is hard to beat.

  • Just about any liquid-cooled engine runs better and cheaper if it's already a bit pre-heated when you light it off, even in nice weather. Fuel costs a bit more than line-current. Any engine drinks it faster with less bang for the buck, getting up TO operating temperature. Use a "Kill-a-Watt®" monitor (RadioShack or Harbor Freight) to see when your pre-heater starts cycling. Then you can use a hd appliance timer to control your engine preheater. Best regards, all.

  • @wtflazerpewpew Getcha a cup of coffee and a sandwich (it was a huge online resource, last time I looked)

...and search "zerostart." They have core-plug heaters, lower {radiator} hose heaters, etc. They also have more guidance than might be expected. Best regards.

  • @CimarronWestfolk That's cool. Not chasing an award for spending the most (though I once worked for Fedgov ;). I'm not familiar with the of engines repersented in your video (yet) but have explored my options for a variety of other engines. For example only--in my SBC-powered stepvan I can use a 1.5 kW "tank" heater in the lower heater-hose or get the same job done with a 0.6 kW core-plug heater in the lower-left hole in the block. It's my choice and my electric-bill. Thanks & best regards.

  • hi there that is a cool stuff and one question is that thing fits to any car or you need to get one according to engine size and make? thanks

  • Thanks Joseph !
