Kaiser Permanente is teaming with First Five across the San Francisco Bay Area to support Soda-Free Summer, an annual campaign that urges parents and children to drink water instead of sugary sodas and juice drinks. Studies show child obesity continues to grow at alarming rates. Consuming a soda each day adds up to several pounds of sugar consumed through the year. Drs Chynna Bantug and Padmaja Padalkar of Kaiser Permanente San Jose medical center are among the hundreds of pediatricians urging their patients to choose water over soda to quench summer thirsts.
