Written by Paul Dresser ) who, At the peak of his fame, in the 1890s, was the most popular songwriter in America. "My Gal Sal" was first published in 1905. It was Dresser's greatest commerical hit...unfortunately, he did live long enough to enjoy the fruits of that success. He was an impoverished and broken man when he died on January 27, 1906

  • WOW! i sang this in choir a long while ago, and i was looking despritely for the lyrics to this, as i could only remember the tune. So, yeah this indeed has helped alot! thanks

  • Happy to hae been of help. You weren't around when Jackie Gleason would sing this as Joe the Bartender during his weekly TV show. He would be wiping off the bar and while bellowing this song and then break off to say hello to an invisible (to every one but Joe) Mr. Dennahy; with whom he would have a one sided conversaton.

  • It's good to see and hear a great song enjoyed. If interested in Poetry Music, look it up: Eventide Poetry Music Paul Dresser

  • Thanks Paul. I will check out Eventide. Ed

  • thanks for sharing this song with me. I love it. I am very happy to see people sing and enjoy playing an instrument, and you are pretty good. I am going to play it on my keyboard because now I know how pretty it is. Regards,

    Fatima.

  • Thanks Fatima. It's an oldie but goodie. I have known this song for a long time but my memory is of Jackie Gleason as Joe the Bartender shouting it out before Mr. Dannahy came into the the bar. Ed
