AMD's quad-core processor "Barcelona", expected to ship this summer, will outperform Intel's current Xeon 5300 "Clovertown by "over 40% ". That is, according to Randy Allen, Corporate Vice-President of AMD's Server and Workstation Business. During his interview with UberPulse's editor-in-chief, Jean-Baptiste Su, the AMD exec talked about improvements the chip maker made to the Opteron core to achieve the performance boost. A significant "leap ahead" which Allen does not expect Intel to catch up anytime soon... time only will tell!

  • AMD are kings. Intel suck.

  • but the intel thats currently on the market is NOT true quad core.... its merely dual core slapped together, EXACTLY like the first "dual cores" from intel were

my point being that intel does it first, AMD does it right

  • or athlon and pentium3..besides its been shown in practice now (1 month after) running 4 1080p60 videos, world of warcraft, motion recognition, and a text doc app.

  • you do realize that effort to become the leader is a good thing for us.. if they merged we would get much slower performance improvements.

  • ... if they made no profit why would they even make them.

  • if they merge, there wouldnt be competition, and as such there would be nothing to drive the market.... think about it.... theres 1 major processor provider, whats the point in advancing technology?

  • Hector Ruiz won't let him.

  • AMD has to do something or else Intel will completely take over the cpu market.

  • its "theoretically" 40%. barcelona is probably still on paper, while Intel's clovertown is actually a product on the market. i'm sure by the time AMD releases barecelona, intel will release something that outperforms it. it's all AMD 64 and Core 2 all over again.
