On March 12, 2011, I took a class in skeleton sledding. This was offered by the Whistler Sliding Center - site of the bobsled, luge, and skeleton competitions of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. At the end of the classroom session each student made two runs down the lower third of the track from curve 11 to curve 16. We all went down in the classic skeleton sled position: on our stomach with our arms along our torso and our hands gripping the handles of the sled. Our face is just a few inches above the ice track. This is my second run, and the video is taken at curve 16. On this run I attained a top speed of 95.8 kilometers per hour which is about 59.4 miles per hour. This was slower than my first run because the chin guard portion of the helmet scraped the track too often.
