Boston 6th Grade Students Learn to Pray at Mosque on Field Trip

n late May of 2010, Wellesley, Massachusetts public middle school students took a field trip to the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center - a controversial Saudi-funded mega-mosque run by the Muslim American Society of Bostn. There, the students were separated by gender and the boys were asked to join the Muslim adults in their prayer. Several of the public school boys took part.

I think it appalling that anyone is making a big deal of this. I have spent many evenings in a local Jewish Temple and have sang in Hebrew and read transliterations as a sign of respect for the faith and traditions. I have been there on Yom Kippur and not eaten or drank. Were they trying to convert me?? Not at all, but there is nothing wrong with religious tolerance. Not every Muslim is hiding a secret terrorist identity. We should not assume or be led by videos such as these.

This has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. While there may be a separation of church and state does not prevent a public school from teaching about a religion and not actually teaching a religion. Nor do we have any proof that the students were praying and simply showing respect for cultural/religious requirements. WTF is wrong with most of you people.

@SDHdammit The Muslims at the Mosque were trying to convert people not just "teach about a religion": "It is He who has sent forth His apostle with guidance and the True Faith (Islam) that he may exalt it above all religions, though the idolaters abhor it." (Koran 9:33)

There is a difference from showing respect and praying. The boys were praying. In Islam you pray by facing Mecca and prostrating. The boys were doing this with the adult Muslims males. This praying is what has people upset.

@megawolf 7. Terrorism and islam can never be associated. the reason for that are the 10 commandments of Islam,christianity and Judaism. They all they commiting a murderous act is against the religon. therefore that clearly means that the acts committed by any terrorist is not part of any religion. Doing a terrorist act means basically hell for the person who does.

@megawolf7 Some Western religions following the Bible say that it is their job to "preach" the gospel to non-believers. And in Judaism, they deeply frown on conversion as being against the Torah, however Conservative and Reform movements allow it most often. Parents always have the right to say "no" to any tax dollar paid field trip. One would wonder why the mother said yes in the first place. She should just quietly raise her children with the same ignorance that she herself possesses!

I feel the same way as this woman who is "narrating" when a an evangelical comes up to me at a gas station or knocks on my door to try and terrify me into going to their church, claiming that if if I do not agree to follow their religion on my doorstep, then I will burn in a place called hell. What is the difference? I do disagree if the mosque was trying to get the kids in there to convert them, but I do think IL Papa just doesn't like the competition. Christians, Muslims and Jews are a plague.

The Rabbi that made this is highly Racist and should not be respected. He's telling lies to degrade the muslim society.
