German Pedanticism

From the 2001 German film "Bella Martha" (Mostly Martha) which has recently been Americanized into a remake starring Catherine Zeta-Jones entitled "No Reservations". I don't see why a remake was necessary, as there was nothing wrong with the original (it's one of my favorite films). I guess American audiences need something which doesn't require the mto read or associate themselves with foreign things? Martina Gedeck is way sexier than Zeta-Jones (I know, my subjective opinion), Aaron Eckhart is blah, Abagail Breslin is child star du jour so obviously she gets the role of the niece, and I can already tell from the trailer the film is going to be so annoyingly treacly I wonder if I can stomach watching it...anyway, this scene perfectly typifies the sort of pedanticism for which the Germans are known...

There was a book I had read that described the requirement of all employees of a particular German restaurant to take a course on the "theory of serving". That made me think of this film. It is not intended as a slur. To be thorough and comprehensive in matters both intellectual and practical is a good thing.

Sometimes it may be taken to extremes; in this case, it is comical.

I honestly enjoyed this original version more than No Reservations. The fact they had Abigail Breslin in it ruined it (she's too overused). I liked the idea that the little girl was more in the story in Bella Martha (her trying to find her father). Martina was a more developed than Zeta-Jones.
