Each Banjo Ukulele has its own unique sound. I have picked a few out of my collection.

  • Matthew - great and inspiring playing! I have a question about the UB-1. Does it have a tone ring sitting on top of the pot under the vellum? I ask because I've got a chance to pick one up, but the pot appears to have a sharp angle under the vellum, and on all others I've seen, including yours, the vellum looks to be sitting on a curved edge, not a sharp one. I'm wondering if there should be a tone ring under there, because if so, it appears to be missing~!

    Thanks!

  • @MrJnobianchi - Hey there! The UB-1 does not have a tone ring. The only Gibson ukelele banjo I have seen with a tone ring is a UB-4 and UB-5. On the UB-1 there is a radiused bevelled edge on the pot. Hope this helps.

  • Matt Richards is a top Bloke. He was great to train with at the RNCB and had some interesting girlfriends! Nice tutorial Matt!

  • hi matt,

what strings do you favour on your banjo ukes?

  • what key were they tuned in ?

  • Love the way you integrated the last bit.

My picks in the last song.. 1/3/4/2.

  • Thank you Matthew. You are really wonderful. Thanks again.

  • @m134mr Yes - thank you, that's a huge help, indeed. It's always hard to buy online without playing an instrument, but It looks like this one is intact and in fine shape.

I agree with your assessment of these Baby Gibsons; I like the sound of all my ukes, but the UB1 is pretty distinctive and appealing.
