No doubt that the German war machine was bad ass. They fought and died just like any other soldier would for their country. My respects for the German military today and for its people.

With bolt action rifles, the German infantryman marched through most all of Europe and fought many valiant actions that defied the odds. The endured and persevered against astronomical odds and that is due, in large part, to the quality of the men not their leaders. They had heart, they had a sense of comeraderie and brotherhood that helped them to endure. Qualities we admire in those serving in the military around the world. We should honor them and remember them as we do other soldiers.

What most don't realize is that Germany was beaten and battered after WW1. Territory seized which included the Sudatenland and areas where most of Germany's manufacturing and factories were located, reparation payments, no military to defend itself. What nation would not take back what was its own or rebel against such tyrrany? All because they honored their treaties and allies. Try understanding ALL that brought Germany to where it found itself before passing judgement on the German soldier.

Most common German soldiers, including many in the Waffen SS, were not party members. Many joined the party because there were perks to doing so like keeping your family fed and a roof over their heads. The German soldier was fighting for his country, much as any other soldier down through history. To diminish their sacrifice and dedication to what they saw as their duty is wrong. The Prussian military tradition has been copied all over the world for that reason.
