@300Spartans out of the hundreds and hundreds i've been in contact with over the past 10 years you're the firs one that has anything negative to say .. I think its funny
Fantastic!..I was @ Ft Ord from 81 to 85. HHC 2/17th Inf, before it was changed to HHC 9th Inf Reg. I loved the shot passing the hospital. When the car turned left at the stop sign, I saw my old barracks window. HHC 9th Inf Barracks were on the corner , kitty corner from the hospital. God, thanks so much for the memories....I was command and staff drive for Col. Jack Pellicci @ HHC 9th Inf HQ. Wow those were the days....really appreciate the footage. Are those Barracks still accessable?
I was there from 1988-1994, actually 1993 when they closed us down and we moved to Fort Lewis, WA. I have been back to Ord maybe 8 times in the past 10 years. I'd say 90% of the old WWII barracks is gone, a big section of that area is gone and you wouldnt recognize it. Between Martinez Hall and Divarty Street is gone other than a few buildings like the supply warehouses, the gyms etc. The barracks are still there, they are slowly painting over all murals and converting them
into buildings for CSUMB, the college there. Our buildings are in horrible shape but still in tact and they are set as No Trespassing but i spoke with the Federal Police there and they said go ahead and go in but be careful. Druggies, homeless, prostitutes as well as gangs have taken over and trashed most places. Many of the housing units are gone or ready to be torn down, few were saved but the ones that are there are for rent.
I have my facebook page with pics at facebook/utbusta and a number of Ft Ord pages and albums. I also have a page at community.webshots.com/user/utbusta for more pics.
I was at Ord with 7th DISCOM from 1992 to 1994. Worst unit I was ever in. Glad its gone.
