Im having the same problem with the reddy/brown algae am i ok to syphon it out or am i gonna mess my water up i.e takin the good biotics out.

@frankboy656 just let it cycle out...the reason your gettign diatoms is because your water has silicate....in other words use RO water or let it takes its coarse...if your gonna use tap water the diatoms will come and go. GL

@frankboy656 if you have the brown stuff...leave it alone it will go away on its own...its part of the cycle...as far as the red stuff thats called cyno bacteria ...try to slow down on the feeding etc...do some water changes

... nice tank and trigger, was wondering if you got the diatom issue cleared up? I have a severe case, I heard that RO water and proper lighting will cut down on the outbreak. If you've had any luck getting rid of it, please help me out :) Thanks, Jason

yes i changed over to RO water and within 2 weeks most of it was gone. I also picked up a jar of Chemi Pure Elite to help with the silicates and Phosphates. GL
