Céspedes CAI. Got to play engineer on a Baldwin 2-8-0 carrying a good load of sugar cane into the Céspedes sugar mill. Not using brakes on the train, only the locomotive and going downhill; toward the end of the video had the wheels locked several times. I believe this used to be engine #6 or 7 when I lived in Cuba. I do have a picture of it taken in the 50s. The Cuban Government re-numbered locomotives according to their HP, hence this 1800HP one.
CAI = Complejo Agro-Industrial.

  • Anything built newer than 1964. refrigerators, stoves, t.v.'s, Vacuum cleaners, cars, trucks even houses can't hold a candle to durable products built before that date.. Modern machines are built with planned obsolescence in mind so they constantly break and cost a lot to repair. They may be faster and less rude,but they're designed to break in such a way that you either can't fix it yourself, must pay a repair specialist or must buy a new one, usually within 7-8 years. Look at this workhorse!

  • @briquetaverne LoL! Amen to that brother!

  • They are not efficient, but neither is a rusting diesel loco needing an oil of some source.

    So, they figure that they =can= run their steamers on bagasse or other vegetable matter....

  • Do they have air brakes of the cars in Cuba or did they just not hook the trainline

  • they still use steam cause most of the time one steam engine is more powerful the 2 desiel units and their cheaper to run

  • looks good......

  • decedant capitalist machine

  • she's skating like crazy .........amazing these old machines can still pull

  • wow nice work, extremely friendly crew
