Cameco allows mine to flood
Mine abandoned
Murray Lyons, The StarPhoenix
Published: Tuesday, October 24, 2006
northern Saskatchewan has been put in doubt, after efforts to contain a flood at the Cigar Lake mine failed Monday morning.
Mine engineers from Cameco Corp. were unable to get one of the mine's huge bulkhead doors to seal properly and stem the fl ow of water that had been pouring in at a rate of 1,500 cubic metres an hour since Sunday afternoon.

The present average allowable exposure to the public [ of 0.02 WL of radon exposure ] could result in 200-300 extra cases of lung cancer per 10,000 people per lifetime. In light of current knowledge, this might be considered tantamount to allowing an industrially induced and publicly sanctioned epidemic of cancer.

Radon-222, a natural decay product of uranium, has been shown to be the cancer-causing agent.[47] Some American survivors and their descendants received compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act in 1990.

Mr. Topping noted that his biggest concern is the lingering effect of the financial crisis on uranium prices?

What about the water and are children!!!

  • Thanks for sharing ...interesting that you mention electrolyses as an alternative energy source because hydraulic fracturing for oil gas & uranium production uses electrolyses to fracture wells etc

  • thanks for looking and your words peace

  • Mining giant Cameco confirms discussions with China on supply agreement

"We will not let the mine flood again," said Grandey. "Rest assured.

  • During the 1950s, many Navajos in the U.S. became uranium miners, as many uranium deposits were discovered on Navajo reservations. A statistically significant subset of these early miners later developed small cell carcinoma after exposure to uranium

  • Big money talks..big companies take over peoples lands everywhere and turns them into their own "goldmines" pumping money out of those people by stealing their possibility to make a decent living as they have before...individuals suffer , land suffers but do they listen??? This makes me sick!! Mahatma Gandhi said "the earth provides enough to satisfy everymans need but not anymans greed" well, he was right but power of their god-money beats common sense and wisdom 6-0!!! Anyways...peace all!

  • Why was Cameco allowed to purchase, at an undisclosed price, 550 metric tonnes of Uranium Yellowcake from Iraq, while the U.S. spent $70 million helping them load it and ship it? How important is mining uranium in a people's water if the U.S. is literally willing to PAY to dispose of it? ...and then potentially buy it from Cameco at a later date? This doesn't add up, at all. Something's fishy.

  • my dad worked there for 14yrs. He died in 2000 from lung cancer. I was born missing my left hand as were many kids of cherlnobyl. Has anyone heard of any studies done on the kids of uranium city?

  • And just think. GEET (google free geet plans) has been around for 30 years. youtube search "engine runs on coffee beer" and "engine runs on water/used oil" all we really need is 80%water 20%used oil.

fuck their bullshit people.build your own engine...it is VERY easy. call 601-TRY-GEET and leave a message if you need any help.

  • Cameco tried very hard to hide the Fukushima incident from the public, a very similar strategy to that of oil companies which is a bit backwards as they do not have that much money. Most likely Cameco's futures earnings estimates are going to be way off as they are over optimistic about the future, the Fukushima incident released 20% of the radiation that Chernobyl released and it is likely that due to Japan’s high population density we will be hearing very sad stories for some time to come.

  • Thank you for sharing..

  • So sad, that money is worth more to these evil "people" than the lives of other human beings and children. Polluting our Mother Earth like ungrateful, destructive children. We need to let go of these modern ways and return to Nature's Harmony. Thank you for your efforts at educating "we the people".
