"O Holy Night" is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808--1877), a wine merchant and poet, who had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem.[1] Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight,[2] editor of Dwight's Journal of Music, created a singing edition based on Cappeau's French text in 1855. In both the French original and in the two familiar English versions of the carol, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and of mankind's redemption.

I agree. An all time classic. Although I think that Nat King Cole's version is right up there.

Nobody, but NOBODY, can come anywhere near Johnny Mathis in doing this song justice. Absolute perfection.

A superior voice and the one of the most moving hymns to Christmas....it "gets" me every time I listen to it. I have loved Johnny Mathis for decades, and I hope that his presence is one of the many by older performers who are being discovered by younger generations thanks to sites like Youtube.

Many have sung this song...but none so well as Johnny. He gave it so much spirit. Thank you so much for posting all of these wonderful versions of the holiday classics!

Thanks you for sharing these videos! Though I have the recordings, it is always more fun to know you are enjoying these songs, by Johnny Mathis, with others.
