In his freshman year he began to have serious problems academically. He was failing almost every class. When his grades dropped so did his quality of friends. He got into a lot of trouble during the summer between freshman and sophmore years.
He's doing a bit better now but we worry about how he will ever catch up in school and graduate. He seems to have little ambition. 2010Jesstube mentioned something similar about his sister who started having problems at 14.

I am an adoptive mother of two teenage boys from Romania. I would love to have contact with other adoptive parents and family members. Our younger son is so much like Mirela. He is 15 now but has a much younger maturity level. He's always struggled with making friends and fitting in socially. Like Mirela he tries to act tough & swear to try to fit in. Our older son did very well until high school. In grade school and middle school he was a star athlete. High school has been harder.

There is always a story whne it comes to adopting. I think it is just amazing.I went back as a 23 year old man just this past summer to go to Romania with my adoptive mom and spent a month in Romania to get to know my Family . Was the trip of my life. I hope to someday adopt my own child from there hopefully when Romania opens up international adoptions once again.

This is a great story Mrs Kinney,
I was adopted at the age of three years old from Calarasi by a wonderful single Canadian woman in 1990 as well she has adopted another two kids from Romania at different times. This story reminds me of my adoptive sister. She had no development problems but at the age of 14 she stared having many many mental issues such as attachment reactive disorder plus a little of bi polar. We never saw this in her early stages.

I just saw your story for the first time, although I have been living it myself since 1991. My daughter Alexis could be Mirela's sister. The stories are exactly the same. Alexis screamed the first time her feet touched the grass. She was diagnosed with the same mental issues and we too changed schools trying to find help. She has no friends and falls into trouble with the children she was placed with in school just as Mirela. I would love to speak to you

Wonderful video!!! Thank you for sharing!! I've been to Romania every year since 1999 & have many dear friends there. I know many adult orphans so I found it fascinating to hear the story of one who was adopted. I can understand the whole 'real age' and 'mental age' deal. I thought that only happened to the kids that stayed. Yes, they are misunderstood. I plan on going back to Sibiu this summer. Thank you for giving her a better life, and thanks again for sharing,
Shane

I too, had house full of boys and adopted a baby girl from romaina in 1991, she is almost 19 now, and has some comprehension problems. I too am struggaling to not over protect her. My daughter showed me this video, she would like to write Mirelai if that would be possible
Hey my aunt adopted my cousin from romania when he was nine years old. Your description of Mirela sounds simular to him in many ways.
He is 24 now and is living and working independantly and has good friends so don't underestimate her. :)
