most germans are really good english speakers! ballack is actually not that good of an english speaker by German standard, but that's cos he grew up and went to school in the GDR (east germany) where they taught Russian instead of English. But since he was still new to the language at the time the interview was conducted, i'd say he got the grip of it!

In Germany they learn to speak English as well as others in school starting in elementary school. My mom is German and I go there often. English is used often in Europe especially in business.
