-Clip 3-
The Real Richard Nixon
Vol. 3: "28 Days"
Interview with Frank Gannon

In this interview/documentary segment, President Richard Nixon discusses the House Judiciary Committee's vote for his impeachment, reactions to the so-called "Smoking Gun" conversation with H.R. (Bob) Haldeman, the Supreme Court decision that he had to turn over his White House tapes, and his sense that his fate was already decided once he lost the support of southern Democrats in the House (and George Wallace declined to help regain their support).

The video clip comes from 38 hours of interviews that Nixon did with Frank Gannon in 1983 during eight days of interviews spread out over several months. Gannon used to work for Nixon and was well acquainted with the former president. Subsequently, Nixon is more at ease and open here than in most of his recorded interviews, including the more famous Frost/Nixon interviews, which were more confrontational, including the more famous Frost/Nixon interviews, which were more confrontational.

This volume of the interview covers Richard Nixon's account of his final days in office.

  • I wish they would release the whole 38 hours on DVD. I could sit and listen to it all.

  • He really had a brilliant mind. He has an opinion or deep analysis on everything. Nothing is 'no comment' or 'I haven't thought about it'. Also, his memory is pretty incredible.

  • So interesting...

  • @greeniem I Just spent over a month in your country. Americans are wonderful people I drove from Alberta through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and stayed in Phoenix to check out real estate then looping out through California... America has been de-industrailized and you can see the consequences and the average person suffers. America must become more protective of it's industry and put tariffs in place. Canada is in good shape the world wants our resources and we are a small population.

  • @nextthought Your country is our parking lot. Thanks!

  • the rats were jumping ship, the nixon presidency being a lame duck as it were...votes for impeachment were also votes for continuing congressional and political ambitions.

  • If I were American I would vote for Ron Paul... I agree with with his views he follows the in the foot steps of Barry Goldwater...

I Think I am like many Canadians who truly care about America we are linked countries and I want to see America succeed.

But your country is in trouble now debt is the enemy... America must stop building the empire for now and focus on the homeland or it may suffer the Soviet unions fate.

    Cheers

  • savior in politics = Ron Paul

listen to the man, you'll thank me for it

  • Thanks for posting these tapes. Very educational.

  • thanks for pointing out the totally obvious.

  • I disagree with nextthought. It was not a Kennedy war, if JFK had lived it was clear it would never have escalated. Johnson and Nixon were responsible for the war. Especially Nixon no matter what else you may think. Nixon unlike Bush was a highly intelligent man, he had no silver spoon and Big Daddy to prop him up. He was self made and I will always admire that quality in anyone. Sadly like most in his position let the power of the office exceed his good judgment.
