Devout followers praying while a monk performs elaborate rites during a morning prayer session in a temple in Old Quarter, Hanoi. At first I thought that this was a Taoist temple with a Taoist monk, but it seems most viewers agree that the gentleman is a Buddhist monk.

  • This is a Buddhist temple. We can see Buddhist monks there. This is a Vietnamese Buddhist spiritual dance

  • Múa lục cúng, sao bác quay ngắn vậy ???

  • I think it's a Mahayana Buddhist temple, not a Taoist temple

  • I believe Buddhist monks in Vietnam practise Taoist ritual.

  • right they are buddhist monks

  • This setc of Buddist have some Taoist in it, but this is a Buddist Temple.

  • Taoists have bobs on their head. The Buddhists have bald heads.

  • These are Buddhist Monk. The leading monk in the centre wears a "5 Buddha Crown". Such ceremonial costume is the same that of a CHinese Mahayana Buddhist Monk.

  • no there are no taoist monks with shaved heads. Keeping their hair is part of the taoist monks precepts and buddhist temples do have music. You can also tell that this is buddhist by the abbots Kesa.I have been been through out all asia and studied buddhism and taoism academically and have never seen a taoist look like a buddhist or perform a buddhist ceremony. Not trying to argue with you just trying to explain how I see the video and I always could be wrong

  • yea but taoism has monks like that as well.and buddhist tempels dont hae music in the abckground with loud instruments playing all the time except for the bell, singing bowl and the muyu
