anyone who thinks Garcia is singing about the "actual" mission district....is completely lost....it's called metaphor....he's singing about the bittersweetness of every life ...like all his heartfelt songs it's the cosmic bittersweet struggle call living on earth with a soul

This is 3-18-78, so it is indeed Donna and Maria Maldaur of "Midnight at the Oasis" fame singing backup.

Its about him living in San Francisco during the mid 1970's lamenting end of his own youth and innocence, as well as the youth and innocence of the post war generations
