Amazing piece! My brother passed away this winter, and the director of the community band I play in selected this piece as one of our tribute songs to him. I had tears rolling down my cheeks by the 2nd line of it, especially after hearing the explanation of how the first part is of the individual's love on earth, the middle is the soul passing into Heaven and the end represents God's love for the soul in Heaven. I had never been so moved by a piece of music.

I get to play this on trombone and it's a beautiful piece. My director told the story behind it and every time we get to measure 39 or 49 I just can hear the passion through the music.

I get to play this piece for festival on clarinet this year. I find it to be a very amazing song. I found it even more say when our director read the story behind it that was in his book that came with the music.

I played this in our All-County band my sophomore year, and now I am a senior, and this is going to be our band seniors' "farewell song" that we play with the band at graduation. I will definitely be bawling my eyes out. This song is beautiful <3

My concert band is playing this piece this fall, the music was written for a funeral, so we are playing it in honor of one of our members who died in a car accident a year ago. Every time we play it right, i look around and theres not a dry eye in the room. love this piece.

i played the euphonium part for this! it was peculiar to what it does to your lips towards the end...my director said the trumpets and my section were the most important voice to be projected.

THis is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music. It tells a beautiful story, it expresses the story, and it always ends with a Happy Ending. I played this song in my Honor Band group, and it was by far my most favorite.
ahh my band played this and i loved it
i typically prefer faster and higher notes (i play trumpet) but i love how this is slow and the melody is calm and love the harmony in this this is an amazing peace even if you love faster songs you got to love this!!

It's interesting. I also prefer the higher notes (B flats) for trumpet but the conductor told the trumpets to play the lower octave. He called the higher options "misprints." We all trusted him though, since he's a friend of Sam Hazo's.
