In this clip from the Salzman interview Steve discusses "the push and the pull" that drives the evolution of consciousness and culture. The "push" results from problematic life conditions, and the "pull" is from the inherent "gravity of value," which causes us to strive to make the world a better place. Evolution's teleology is not mysterious, it arises from the basic experiential reality of consciousness being attracted to quality.
