  • @rasimoo999 Care to explain how you've come to this understanding. It's one thing to say non-liturgical items shouldn't be on there, but to criticize liturgical items on the later seems a bit odd. They're not reading from Harry Potter. How are they supposed to read from the books when their hands are full (for example, when they are preparing the bread and wine)? I've just never heard of this criticism before and I'm hoping to see your response.

  • Christ is in our midst dear Nikolaidis--The Holy Gospel and only the Holy Gospel should be on the Holy Altar. perhaps that is not so in the Greek Tradition, in which case I should not have expressed my sadness rather just be silent. Forgive me for having offended you.

  • @rasimoo999

You speak about the sadness of having Books on the Holy Altar. Tell me, where else are the Gospel Book and the Hieratikon (Book with rubrics on how to conduct Divine Liturgy, Vespers and so on) meant to be placed?

The Holy Gospel is ALWAYS on the Holy Altar. The remaining books remain on the Altar too, for the celebrating clergy READ and CONDUCT from them.

  • AsIi said i cannot judge the hearts of those clergy. may God bless them and you to have a wonderful Pascha.

  • @Rasimoo Talk about assuming way too much before you say anything. Those are my priests and my parish, you know.

  • actually the books on the Holy Sanctuary are the Holy Gospel, the Pauline Epistles and according to the number of priests books with the Service (Vespers, Liturgie, Matins and so on)

  • They're liturgical books with Chants to be used during the service, what's wrong with that? Those books probably never leave the church, let alone the sanctuary. o_O

The priest chanting seems to have some passion in his chant, I don't really get an impious impression from this video, then again, I don't get an overly pious view from it either. It's a 36 second clip, I think you're looking into it too much.

  • The sad part is there appears to be no reverence at the Holy Altar. Books on the Holy...a lack of piety appears though I cannot judge the hearts of those clergy.
