Juvenile discus require several feedings per day, this is because they have a smaller stomach than an adult discus. Feed little but often is a general guideline for a healthy discus, as a result this leads to a faster growth.
My feeding regime is 5 times a day, the following time that they are being fed are at: 7 AM, 11 AM, 3 PM, 7 PM and 11 PM.
My water changes are due 1 hour after each feeding, this means that the times are: 8AM, 12PM, 4PM, 8PM and 12AM. Each water changes are done in 20-40%, thus equating to a total of 100-200% water change. Juvenile discus require ammonia, and nitrite free water in order to grow large and healthy. A vast array of diet is also the key to success!
The tank get wiped down once a week to reduce a build up of 'slime' and risk of bacteria proliferation.
These juveniles will be raised in a bare bottom tank, fed 5 times a day with various food, including my own Beefheart mix, Marine Formula One flake food, Hikari Tropical Discus Bio-Gold pellet food, Australian Freeze Dried Blackworms and many more. Frozen Bloodworms will be avoided, not that I had an issue with FBW in the past, but I want to be safe than sorry as this will be my future breeding stock.
It is important to feed juvenile discus fish with high protein food whilst they are still young, this ensure rapid growth before they start to slow down when they reach 10months old.
The temperature of the water I raise them at is 28-30C, this encourages appetite as the juveniles' metabolism increases. They will also thrive better in warmer water.
Water parameter tested using an API test kit.
PH: 7.6
Ammonia: 0 PPM
Nitrite: 0 PPM
Nitrate: 0-1
Tiger Turquoise 4 months old, 113 days old as at 21.06.10
Red Turquoise 3 months old, 82 days old as at 21.06.10
It has only been 5 days since these juvenile Red turquoise and Tiger turquoise are in my possession and they are always actively swimming towards the glass begging for food, and loves to swim around the tank. They even swim upwards when I place my hand into the tank during a water change. This video even shows you that they are energetic, they even feed off the surface of the water, which discus fish rarely do.
Hopefully, I can get a pair from this group, I am especially keen in breeding the Tiger Turquoise as it already have adult colouration and a very robust looking round body, sharp red eyes, the facial expression on the gill plate is red too!
Clean water and high quality food will naturally pull out the beauty of your discus fish, no hormones or chemical is needed.
i heard if one discus dies it releases a hormone or poison that kill off other fish is that true?

When a living being is dead (ie:fish), it will start to erode and ammonia level will increase, so it is important to do a large water change (to prevent fouling of the water). It won't kill your fish, unless off course, you just leave it there to rot and decay.

FedEx can cause problems at times, such as delays, broken boxes...practically anything that you could think of.
Healthy adult discus like Hans will be fine without food for days without issue. Just ensure that you provide them with clean water. If they still don't eat by tomorrow, you should create a thread on 'Disease/Sickness and Medication', maybe something is wrong during transport.
Hope all goes well for you,
Kevin

What a coincident, I was posting on your thread the other day at SD, pretty funny to think about it haha. You can't go wrong with Hans discus, they will become 'breeding machines' soon =)
The tank size is 23Lx13Wx15H"(water level is set that high) = 4485 / 277 (for US gallons, it is 231) = 16 UK Gallons or 20 US Gallons. I do a minimum of 100% WC and a maximum of 200% per day, that is why I could stock so much without problems. I got a bigger tank for them when they get bigger.
