By popular request, this is my first installment of my tutorial series on how to play my arrangement of Adagio for Strings, Opus 11, by Samuel Barber. My son gave me an idea on how I could post the music, and it looks like it worked. For those who cannot read music, however, fear not. My next tutorials will be actual videos, with me explaining what I do and how I do it. The audio is of me playing, same as before, but the music scrolls across as it plays.

BTW, the first piece of sheet music on the title screen is page one of my original hand-written arrangement. You can probably guess why I haven't posted that one. I used Cakewalk's MIDI and sheet music generator functions to make the sheet music postable, and legible. Also, the suggestions I offer for playing the music are things I have learned through playing it myself. I offer them as a "how I do it" guide, but each player ultimately can make their own decisions, and as I've said before, I don't see myself as the voice of authority here. I just put them up there for those that want them.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate.

  • You my friend understand this piece. Most rush it. Nice job!

  • @redstartn Thanks! :D

  • Call me an idiot but what are the "P"s and astericks underneath the bass clef?

  • @RockYourInnerSenses The P's and astertisks are where I used my foot pedal. That's just how the computer annotated it.

  • What is the key note and tempo for this song?

  • @awwq89 I'm not quite sure what you mean by "key note," but it's written in Bb minor (I think - I would have to look at it again), but it uses a lot of Eb minors, F majors, etc., and loads of accidentals. As for tempo, I would say in the ballpark of 65-70 bpm.

  • 9/11 always comes to mind when this grave masterpiece is played. Fuck the taliban and all terrorist.

  • @marvinbezzina123 Why does everyone talk about September 11th like it was the worst thing to happen in history! Gosh what about the things that have happened in Africa where MILLIONS of people have been murdered. 3,000 people in two buildings sounds measly compared to millions of gruesome, horrific deaths that occur in Africa. Are they inferior nobodies or something... Also why do you say God bless America and Europe. I'm British but what makes us so special? God loves everyone in this world. xx

  • @diamond3187 , murder is the ultimate transgression.

  • @TheWannaBe2007 I think there's Dflat and a lower-part A in the first several bars(the second I mean), which is very important in texture making of the piece.

  • @TheWannaBe2007 can you send me the sheet music of this please? this music reminds me of those days when the whole world cried infront of the tv. I am referring to the september 11. May GOd bless america and europe.

  • Too many mistakes.

  • I just started to learn to play the cello and my goal is to play this one...wow awesome..It is so beautiful it almost makes me cry.... I think My dog likes it too.. He wanted me to pick him up as soon as he heard it. He sat here on my lap with his head side to side for each note... his head up looking and trying to find where it was coming from... (on the screen of my laptop)....he is so cute .. I must put that on you tube...lol..I just love Adagio for strings by Samuel Barber... Awesome..
