  • Obama ,democrats, and the repubs just shit on all American truckers. If they can't outsource your jobs, then they will import cheaper labor. Both the dems and the repubs are waging economic war on the American working man. The teamsters union is a sham, they don't care about our jobs. The unions lost their way long ago. now instead caring about our jobs, they care about social justice and workers of the world. I saw it in timber, manufacturing, mining, farming, now trucking. RIP USA

  • @Tr2u1ck

That's a red herring argument. What does it matter what Mexican truck drivers do on Mexican roads? We're talking about Mexican trucks and drivers on OUR roads. They must follow our rules here, just like a US based carrier.

  • @Tr2u1ck

I was a truck driver and now work with motor carriers' safety programs. I know what I'm talking about and can back it up.

Mexican trucks entering the US are safer simply because they are inspected at about a 95% rate at the border, either by Federal or State authorities. If its unsafe, then it doesn't come in.

All Mexican based companies are subject to the exact same regulations as an American company. Drug testing must be done in USDOT certified collection labs only.

  • @Tr2u1ck

There is nothing in that treaty that says you have to defend those jobs against competition. Bush 41 made the deal and Clinton signed it into law. It was written in black and white and spelled out clearly. The problem is that too many either don't understand the deal, or are afraid of competition.

  • @juarezrt (cont'd part 2)

The job of the president and Congress is to defend the people of the US and thats thier priority. With the threat of job loss and the ongoing issue with the drug cartels (not to mention other ongoing problems Mexican authorities fail to do regarding trucking), i will continue to say NO to mexican trucks in the US until each issue has been resolved

  • @juarezrt (cont'd part 1) and NYC taxi drivers whose abilites was ranked the 2nd worst in the nation. Mexico has NO drug testing facilities, no hours of service regulation until 11 years ago (when the US has had our hours of service rules in place for 83 years), and no way to ensure that these driver coming from Mexico can speak or read the english language. During the pilot program in 2007 the inspectors at the border have said many times they cannot inspect every truck coming across.

  • @juarezrt I will repeat myself: "theres nothing in that horrible agreement that says we have to sacrifice our JOBS and SAFETY for this crap"

JOBS will be lost on the USA side; thats a given no matter how you look at it. Safety will be sacrificed as well and judging by your text, youre not a truck driver who has NOT heard stories (or even witnessed them) from other truck drivers regarding Mexican trucks. not only are the trucks junk, but so are their driving abilities. Most are worse than NJ

  • @Tr2u1ck

Those tariffs are in direct retaliation for not allowing Mexican trucks into the US.

Mexico went to court for years so they could legally impose those tariffs.

Your safety would not be affected, as Mexican trucks entering the US are actually safer than US trucks.

NAFTA is treaty signed by three countries and has never been declared unconstitutional by any of its participants.

  • News flash NObama: those tariffs are also against NAFTA. theres nothing in that horrible "agreement" that says we have to sacrifice our jobs and safety for this crap. Thanks for further deteriorating this nation that you sure have failed to protect it. God may see that you are brought to justice for violating your oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution.

  • This makes me livid. I don't know how many industries this country is going to have to lose before protectionism stops being a bad word.
