Hi!
When we 1st went to pick a pup, there were 3 to choose from. Luckie (black) was one. I wanted a brown, so chose Lucie. When she was old enough to come home, my breeder could tell that Luckie had the smooth/Imp.coat. She just wanted her to have a good home & that day I went home (OUT OF MY MIND HAPPY!) with 2 puppies! Lucie doesn't shed at all & Luckie does shed some. Breeders can tell by the time the pups are 4-6 wks old about their coats.

So is the dog with the pink collar really full Water Dog? Our dog looks exactly like this and we are not sure what she is. We thought Border Collie and Neufie because she is 65 lbs. Just has a little white on her chest and back paws. Softest fur by her ears (it kinks when wet). She loves to swim, even in the winter. She mouths the kids to "save" them and brings them to the side of the pool. Thanks for any input.

Hi!
Yes, Luckie (Black one) & Lucie are 100% AKC Portuguese Water dogs. They are liter sisters. Luckie has the flat (improper, smooth) coat gene. Lucie has a wavy coat. If you google Portuguese Water Dog improper coat you will get other photos & info. Lucie doesn't shed at all; but Luckie does a little.
Luckie is about 50lbs & Lucie is 55.
Water Dogs come in many colors so the flat coat can be brown, white, or black - or any combination of those colors.
They are the best!
